In 1877, the main formally composed gathering in Yonkers was delegated without term by the Common Council of the recently framed city to collect and saving the early history of Yonkers. They called themselves "The Committee on the History and Historical Relics of Yonkers." The advisory group comprised of seven authority individuals, which included Mayor Samuel Swift. William H. Doty filled in as Secretary. Different individuals, who might later turned out to be changeless individuals, were Reverend Dr. David Cole, Robert P. Getty, Ralph E. Prime, and Frederic Shonnard, and Professor H. M. Baird. Representative Thomas Egan was added to the board of trustees ex officio, which implied he picked up participation because of his situation in the recently shaped government.
This was basically an early form of the Yonkers Historical Society.
On April 20, 1882, the advisory group issued an open declaration mentioning for the credit or endowment of authentic things that related to the network. On November 2, 1891, the board of trustees changed its name, once more, to "The Yonkers Historical and Library Association." It saved notable Philipse Manor Hall. This gathering was dynamic until taken over by the Yonkers part of the "Westchester County Historical Society."

By 1928, it appeared to be a fitting time for another verifiable society to develop in Yonkers. The "Westchester County Historical Society" delegated Yonkers inhabitant Samuel B. Hawley to begin a Yonkers Chapter of the association. It was notable that his family had dependably been keen on nearby history. His dad had been VP of the "Westchester County Historical Society" amid the mid 1890s and was additionally one of the authors of the main "Yonkers Historical Association." His dad in-law filled in as the principal leader of that association. Accordingly, it was nothing unexpected when Hawley was chosen to fire up the new Yonkers Chapter.
